For real: I am not fabrication. The previous proprietor didn't just unconstraint it haphazardly, but where I living, City of London offers bulk disposal years where you can toss out appliances, mattresses, and yes—flat your gambling PCs.

As you can see, it looks like it was tied to a truck abundant and dragged to nether region and back. Its fans were clogged with dust, one memory heat spreader had fallen off, and the cap that would commonly cover the melted cooler had somehow vanished. One type fan had a wire rubbing against IT, so the root was apparently to fold up a sheet and jam the devotee blade rather than listen to the "ticking-tick-tick" of the rooter hitting the wire.

Yes, I in truth found this functional 5th-gen Core i7 with a GeForce GTX 1080 in a pile of trash, though I had to find a different pile of trash for purposes of illustration.

I, candidly, could understand why someone might decide information technology was time to jettison this mess during spring cleansing. Non because I need information technology, but because I find beauty in the ugliness. Yes, the machine you see here looks sketchy, but in my mind—someone, somewhere—can use it. I know I can buoy find a home for an old monitor at the state-supported library, or a person happy to take an ancient PC. It's better for someone to get some use out of IT then to have it buy the farm to the great e-waste firepit in the sky.

This is no fish story: I ground this eVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACS card in the trash. Information technology yet had the shaping film protector still on it.

I coif wonderment what its history was. Did it get replaced by a shiny, fast new Ryzen 5000 paired with a GeForce RTX 3080? Did the owner quit PC gaming, or buy out a new-generation soothe? Incidentally, the home I found for this PC is with a relative WHO has long been a console gamer but really wants—and canful't afford—a gaming PC.

The rest of the parts I found, I haven't base a home for yet, but I wish. Yes, it wasn't just this practical Core i7-5930K and GeForce GTX 1080 that was headed for the rubbish heap.

Unrivalled gamer's deoxyephedrine is another's treasure: This MSI Z390-A Favoring circuit board, Intel Core i5-9600K, Cooler Master Hyper 212 and 16GB of Corsair DDR4 was also nigh for the buzzards.

Besides the old analog PC speakers and a PS/2 keyboard, I besides found a functional 9th-gen Marrow i5-9600K with 16GB of RAM. The motherboard was just lying happening the ground and was missing its fan, and then I suspect someone had already come crosswise it in a instance and decided to leave it behind, keeping whatever components that were somehow better instead. As with the gaming PC, the motherboard, CPU, and RAM office just close, as you buns run across from BIOS shot under.

I bon Ryzen is redemptive, but someone really tossed a Core i5-9600K and 16GB of Drive in in the gutter.

Non Ryzen, not for me

Even I have my limits. There was actually a third Personal computer in a case stripped out by another passerby: an older AM3-socket based AMD CPU. I didn't remove the cooler to find the manakin phone number, but pre-Ryzen CPUs don't rank high in my book any longer. I have enough older Sandy Bridge circuit and Ivy Bridge machines I'm still trying to rehome.

I could see the sanitization engineers driving my way, and then I scuttled back home with the PC and motherboard while dragging my confused dog. Hopefully, someone else establish utility-grade for that old AM3 chip.

This is why Windows 11 makes me sad

My story of turning e-waste into useful hardware is a good taproo story, but information technology also highlights why people are so real maddened over Windows 11's plan to strand older ironware. Yes, at that place may so be legitimate necessarily with the increased security threats, but that doesn't lessen the sting. For atomic number 3 long as I can remember, old PC hardware has persisted with the ability to run the newest, most certified OS.

Come 2025 when Windows 10 ends, I'm white-lipped I'll just deliver to leave whatsoever old hardware to the e-waste gods as an alternative (sorry Linux fans, it's just really hard to find regular consumers who will select an old PC without the just about favourite consumer OS on it).

For now, I can at least appreciate that I found homes for this hardware.
